Greetings,

In CitySoft's July 2007 newsletter, we celebrate 11 years of operation (the most of any Internet software company serving the social sector) by announcing the release of Version 6.0 of Community Enterprise - our software platform for social sector organizations.

With so many years of experience under our belts, we take a few moment to review what makes Community Enterprise different and better than so many other technology options in the social sector.

In addition, we highlight our software donation program that is helping smaller non-profits all over the country.

As always, we'd love to talk to you about our software. In fact, most of our work comes from referrals from people like you. If you know of an organization that could benefit from our software, please encourage them to visit www.citysoft.com, review our CE Overview, and contact us through our website or at 1-617-275-7122.

Best regards and we look forward to hearing from you soon,

Nick Gleason, CEO

What Makes Community Enterprise Different

CE reflects the best of open source and traditional software evolution

After eleven years serving social sector organizations and numerous releases of Community Enterprise, CitySoft has developed a deep understanding of both 1) the needs of the sector and 2) the lessons of software trends and evolution.  We have incorporated that understanding into CE in the form of five core principles that reflect the software needs of social sector organizations and key trends in software.

By making these core principles the cornerstone of CE, we have freed our clients from the burdens of managing traditional or customized software solutions.  In doing so, CitySoft has become the "Southwest Airlines" of our industry - offering a great, competitive product at a fraction of the price.

These core principles are as follows:

1. Affordable - CE is hands down the most affordable system of its kind anywhere.  It is much more affordable than over-priced commercial and ASP systems like Blackbaud, Kintera, and Convio.  Moreover, CE has a much lower total cost of ownership than customized open source software that has to be pieced together and maintained at substantial cost.

2. Open Source - By making CE source code open and accessible to clients and donation recipients, CE provides extensive access and openness that traditional commercial and ASP platforms can never hope to match.  At the same time, CE's open source approach has attracted an engaged network of partners and contributors.

3. Upgradeable - Unlike most open source frameworks, CE provides easy upgradeability across all its modules and features.  Whereas organizations using customized open source solutions often get trapped on a "code island" with fragmented and difficult to maintain systems, CE automatically provides clients with dozens of new features in each release.  And because CE is engineered for easy upgradeability, it has a low total-cost-of-ownership.

4. Web-based - Community Enterprise is a web-based software platform that has been programmed from the ground up to take advantage of web-technologies.  Whereas some software programs in the social sector still rely largely on desktop or client - server technology, CE provides users with the ubiquity of the web so that all the members of your organization can log in securely from anywhere.

5. Comprehensive - CE solves the "silo" problem in enterprise data management by providing a full suite over 20 modules that are fully integrated out-of-the-box.  CE's modules encompass content management, constituent relationship management, and financial processes.  So, with CE, you don't have to worry about either 1) data being separated in fragmented silos or 2) hiring technologists to piece together and maintain an expensive patchwork quilt of separate systems.

These ideas about the evolution of software in the social sector are described in more detail in a series of recent articles, which can be seen here:

Building on these insights and eleven years of experience in social sector technology and software, CitySoft has made Community Enterprise an unparalleled value to its clients and donation recipients.

CitySoft Donation Program

One of the efforts that we are most proud of at CitySoft is our CE donation program.  In recent years, this program has granted copies of CitySoft's powerful CE software to non-profits around the country.  The program is taking off and has allowed us to connect with and empower many great organizations.

To qualify for the donation program, an organization has to fulfill only two criteria - be a 501(c)3 organization with an annual budget of less than $500,000.  For qualifying organizations, CitySoft will provide a license to our Community Enterprise software with no strings attached.

Community Enterprise finally allows small organizations to consolidate their various systems and data into a single robust platform that handles all of their technology - from their database to their website to outbound electronic and hard copy mailings. For more information about this program, please visit our website.
